Power is our Super maize meal. The superb quality is reflected in its taste, texture and colour.

POWER Super maize meal is our flagship brand, which is sold in five provinces across South Africa. The following factors contribute to Power’s exceptional high quality:

  • Only WM1 white maize is accepted from suppliers. Power maize meal is amongst the whitest on the market, due to strict quality control when maize is received.
  • All raw maize received at the Keystone mill is scrupulously inspected for foreign objects, insects, poisonous seeds, moisture content and grade of maize. If the irregularities are not within the set-out parameters, the entire load of raw maize is summarily returned to the supplier.
  • On the three-hundred-micron sieve, twelve to fourteen percent is acceptable. The outcome is a better yield when cooking the final product, due to the exclusion of too fine particles that have a gluey structure when cooked.
  • The vegetable fat content standard is below 0,8%. The lower the vegetable fat, the less bitter the cooked maize meal, offering a better taste and lasting longer before it gets spoiled or “turn sour”.
  • Power maize meal is fortified with minerals and vitamins.
  • The packaging is of superior quality, giving it a better look and feel.

TASTE

Power maize meal tastes best, because it is the lowest in fat of all major brands. The most important factor that determines the taste of any maize meal is the amount of vegetable fat that it contains. Plant fat tastes bitter. The higher the fat percentage the more bitter the cooked product tastes. The fat also smells bad when you cook it.

TEXTURE

Super maize meal should not be too coarse or too fine. More important, is that it should also not contain powder. The powder in maize meal is normally high in fat. This makes it more difficult to cook, as it easily becomes clotty.

COLOUR

Power is a white meal containing virtually no black spots.
